No Lab Coat Required

No risk assessment. No second thoughts. Just code, sequence, build, repeat.
We’re watching a convergence that Cold War biodefense never accounted for:
large language models that can walk you through synthetic biology,
humanoid robots that don’t flinch in high-containment labs,
AR-guided interfaces making precision work accessible,
and biotech tools that no longer require traditional expertise.
This isn’t theoretical. It’s here. And it doesn’t care whether it’s BSL-1 or BSL-4.
The assumption that “intent plus skill equals threat” is breaking down fast.
The Cold War built a biodefense posture based on nation-states, deterrence, and denial.
That doesn’t work in a world where automation removes friction and curiosity can outpace control.
If we’re still modeling biological threats through a 1970s lens, we’re already behind.
